BANBANSON® BEYONDSEAM™ Technical Announcement: Overcoming the PFAS-Free C0 DWR Bonding Roadblock through Molecular Engineering

MUNICH, GERMANY — As the global functional apparel industry accelerates its transition toward a fluorocarbon-free future, fabric engineers are facing a major physical challenge: the extreme difficulty of achieving durable seam tape and adhesive film bonds on Low Surface Energy (LSE) PFAS-Free C0 DWR (Durable Water Repellent) substrates.

Due to the highly hydrophobic nature of C0 DWR chemical treatments, traditional hot-melt adhesives struggle to wet and physically anchor into the textile fibers. This often results in a significant drop in peel strength and eventual seam delamination after washing.

This October, at the Performance Days Functional Fabric Fair in Munich, BANBANSON® BEYONDSEAM™ will present their latest research and macromolecular solutions at the Innovation Area (Booth IN12), located directly at the exhibition entrance. Rather than resorting to aggressive surface primers, our focus is strictly on polymer and molecular modifications to help brands achieve reliable, highly durable bonds on difficult-to-tape technical textiles.

C0 DWR Bonding breakthrough:

🔬 Concrete Laboratory Data: Verified Adhesion Performance

To ensure absolute transparency and scientific accuracy, BANBANSON® BEYONDSEAM™ are proud to present verified peel strength data (measured in N/cm under standard ASTM D903 peel testing parameters) from our latest factory laboratory trials.

All trials were executed under standard heat-press parameters (130-150°C at 15 seconds) and evaluated both at initial bonding and after 30 industrial wash cycles (40°C for 45 minutes per cycle) (Challenging the standard 10 Industrial Watch cycles):

1. On 100% Recycled Polyester (PES) 4-Way Stretch Double-Knit Fabric (111g/m²)

  • Maintaining elastic recovery and high peel strength on highly flexible polyester knits without thermal distortion.

  • The Results:

    • Our Aliphatic Anti-Yellowing Elastic Film BUV-F110 (0.10mm) achieved a massive 45 to 48 N/cm peel strength.

    • Our High-Flow Aliphatic Film BUV-F1110 (0.10mm) reached 55 N/cm initial bonding, settling at a highly durable 40 to 47 N/cm after 30 wash cycles.

2. On Heavyweight Plain Weave Composite / Softshell Fabric with Waterproof PU Membrane & C0 DWR (178g/m²)

  • Achieving high physical adhesion that penetrates the DWR finish on the face while resisting moisture water-column pressure on the membrane backer.

  • The Results:

    • Our Anti-uv adhesive Film BUV-F (0.12mm) and Specialty High-Tension adhesive Film HQF (0.12mm) on C0 DWR polyester Bonding achieved an identical, peak pull force of 53+ N/cm.

    • Substrate Cohesive Failure Note: In multiple peel tests on this heavyweight fabric, our adhesives achieved complete C0 DWR fabric coating tear-away (coating cohesive delamination). This proves that the adhesive bond interface is structurally stronger than the internal cohesive strength of the textile's polyurethane coating itself.

3. On 100% Polyamide (Nylon) Plain Weave (119g/m²) & Ripstop Grid Nylon (91g/m²) with Heavy C0 DWR Finish

  • Nylon fibers treated with dense C0 DWR are notoriously "impossible to bond," with traditional tapes often dropping below 10 N/cm after washing.

  • The Results:

    • Our Bio-based PU Adhesive Seam Tape ULTR259 (0.12mm) on C0 DWR nylon Bonding consistently achieved a stable, highly reliable 24 to 30 N/cm peel strength after 30 industrial washes.

    • This is achieved through the integration of 8% bio-based (castor oil-derived), which naturally enhances molecular wet-out and physical anchoring into LSE nylon fibers without damaging the yarn or DWR finish.
